ESSENTIALS 1:0

Have you ever stopped to consider what your relationship is with fashion? Are you someone who makes do with what is already available or splurge frequently on new trends? Recently we’ve been wondering what is essential to us and the answer is pretty simple; having a wardrobe that reflects our identity yet allows us to show off our core values and what we truly believe in.

The fashion industry is in a constant state of change, churning up valuable resources with no thought or responsibility to what happens to the garment once it has been sold onto the consumer. The impact of this is immense. According to the Ellen Macarthur Foundation, if the fashion industry continues on its current path, by 2050 it could use more than 26% of the carbon budget associated with a 2oC global warming limit.

So, what’s the solution?

Recently we’ve been involved in the ESSENTIALS 1.0 campaign with sustainable fashion brand Vintage for a Cause. This campaign is more than just a collection, it’s an ode to co-creation that wants to celebrate the importance of joining forces towards collective change inside the fashion industry.

Helena, founder of Vintage for a Cause, was very specific about the people inside of this campaign. She chose influential people from across Portugal who advocate for either zero-waste shopping, plant-based eating, regenerative farming and/or conscious choices when it comes to fashion. Because being essential is not just a choice inside of your wardrobe, it’s an opportunity to be translated into much more.

Right now, we cannot deny the necessity of moving away from linear and wasteful systems, which is why we love the fact that ESSENTIALS 1.0 is made from certified deadstock material by TINTEX Portugal. Reducing waste by designing unique collections is one of the reasons why we love Vintage for a Cause and why we’re proud of the pieces that hang inside our wardrobes.

Another reason why we love ESSENTIALS 1.0 is because it is size inclusive, which is a message that needs to be communicated inside the fashion industry. For so long we’ve had to deal with fast fashion making us feel that we’re not good enough. Now, more than ever, it is essential to love and respect one another no matter the size, race, gender or age. It is essential to create an inclusive world that protects people and the planet.

Tell us what you think of the new collection and we’re curious to know, what is essential to you? Write in the comment box below.
