What is Slow Fashion?
There is a common misconception between fashion buzzwords like sustainable, slow, ethical and eco.
Let's clear up slow fashion, which is the opposite to fast fashion (well duh!), but what does this mean as a consumer?
It means patience. It means quality. It means customisation.
Slow fashion enables you to have a deep connection with the process of your garments, especially when they're made-to-order pieces.
Luxury is no longer expensive leather bags with a badge attached and no presentation of the supply chain.
Luxury is knowing who makes your garments, minimal waste and contributing to a better future of fashion.
How can we define examples of slow fashion?
A brand offers made-to-order pieces, which avoids unnecessary overproduction and waste.
Conscious design methods to ensure garments have longevity, for example using wise materials like linen that improve over time.
Addressing the slowing down of how many trends are produced per year. Fast fashion brands can churn out trends on a weekly basis! Choose a brand that offers timeless style that can be repeated and worn for years to come.
Currently our favourite fashion brands are...
@omi.na.na who have just launched a collection of new garments and in the nature of true slow fashion, there are limited pieces available. Once they're snapped up by a happy customer, you will need to wait for your garment to be made and sent. This is a one woman show with an impressive story, plus beautiful garments that are limited and made to last.
@notrashonmycloset is preparing for their next collection which uses quality surpluses, such as linen to create made-to-order garments. Be sure to follow them for news!
@forgirlsclub.co are fresh into the scene with a unique look. A look that will spice up your zoom work meetings and add value to your wardrobe. They regularly drop their uniquely upcycled and limited pieces on Instagram, so make sure you stay tuned!
